Corporate gifts in Chowk, Aminabad & Nakhas (old Lucknow)
Chowk, Aminabad and Nakhas are the trading heart of old Lucknow: wholesale merchants, chikan and textile houses, jewellers, sweet and food makers and family firms that have dealt with the same retailers for generations.
Corporate gifts here mean Diwali boxes for buyers and dealers, calendars in Hindi, Urdu and English with the festival dates marked, and diaries for a retailer network that may stretch across Uttar Pradesh. Our studio in Vikas Nagar is about 9–11 km away; deliveries come into the lanes by two-wheeler or handcart at an agreed time.
A wholesaler in Aminabad is not gifting an office. He is gifting four hundred shopkeepers from Barabanki to Gorakhpur who have bought from his family for thirty years, and the calendar on their wall is the one place his name stays up all year.
What old-city businesses ask for
The briefs from Chowk and Aminabad have a character of their own. These four requests come up in almost every conversation.
- A Diwali box that carries the firm's name
- A printed rigid box with a diary and a pen, with room left for the firm's own sweets or dry fruit, given to buyers, dealers and the bank manager in the week before Diwali. The Diwali corporate gifts page shows the formats.
- A calendar in three scripts
- Month names and dates in Hindi and English, Urdu where the firm's customers read it, and the festival calendar — Diwali, Holi, Eid, Muharram, Navratri, Dussehra, Chhath and the rest — marked on the grid alongside the national and Uttar Pradesh holidays.
- Diaries for the retailer network
- A laminated or PU corporate diary 2027 for every retailer, with the firm's product range, rate-list pages or order-form pages printed in the company section, and the branch and godown addresses on the inside cover.
- Gifting that travels
- Most of the network is outside Lucknow. Lots are packed district-wise, labelled in Hindi if the firm prefers, and sent by the transport the firm already uses for goods, or by courier from the studio.
The trade of Chowk, Aminabad and Nakhas
Aminabad is the wholesale market — cloth, hosiery, utensils, cosmetics, stationery, general merchandise — supplying retailers across Uttar Pradesh and beyond. Chowk holds the chikan embroidery houses, the perfumers, the jewellers and the old sweet and kebab names that have become brands. Nakhas and the lanes between carry hardware, second-hand goods, printing and the food trade. Almost every firm here is a family business, and the person who approves the artwork is usually the owner or his son or daughter, often across the counter.
What they have in common is a network rather than a staff list. The gift goes to the people who buy from them — retailers, stockists, institutional customers — and to those who keep the business running: the bank branch, the transporter, the karigars, the long-serving staff. Tiers run from a laminated diary for the smallest retailer to a boxed set for the biggest buyer, all under one artwork.
Trade by trade: what each kind of firm gives
Framed by trade, because the networks differ. A chikan house gifts showroom buyers in other cities; a sweet maker gifts the families and institutions that order in bulk. Budget bands are relative (₹ lowest, ₹₹₹₹ highest).
| Trade | Who receives | Usual gift | What it carries | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wholesale merchant | Retailers across UP, transporters | Wall calendar, laminated diary | Rate-list pages, godown addresses, festival dates | ₹ |
| Chikan and textile house | Showroom buyers, exporters' agents, karigars | PU diary in a box, jute bag with the motif | Embroidery motifs on cover, product photographs by month | ₹₹–₹₹₹ |
| Jeweller | Regular families, bank managers, bullion dealers | Boxed diary and pen set, table calendar | Muhurat and festival dates, foil logo | ₹₹₹ |
| Sweets and food brand | Bulk-order customers, institutions, dealers | Table calendar, pens, Diwali box | Festival-wise product sheets, order numbers | ₹–₹₹ |
| Perfumer, hardware or stationery trader | Stockists, shop staff, suppliers | Wall calendar, pens by the box | Three-script grid, shop timings | ₹ |
| Family firm with a bank and CA | Bankers, auditors, advisors | Genuine leather diary with name | Blind-debossed monogram | ₹₹₹₹ |
Calendars in Hindi, Urdu and English, with the festivals marked
A calendar for an old-city firm is read by retailers in small towns, by karigars in the lanes and by customers of every community, so it has to work in more than one script. We set Hindi and English as standard; if your customers read Urdu, say so at the brief stage so the right font is used and the script is typeset properly rather than approximated from a substitute font. The date grid stays large, and the firm's name and telephone numbers sit where they can be read from the shop floor.
Festival marking matters more here than anywhere else in Lucknow. Beyond the national and Uttar Pradesh holiday lists, we mark the festivals that move the trade: Diwali and Dhanteras for the jeweller and the sweet maker, Eid and Ramzan for the chikan trade, Holi, Navratri, Dussehra, Chhath, Raksha Bandhan and the wedding season. Where the firm has its own dates — the annual sale, the stock-taking closure — those go on too. The calendar design ideas page shows how a twelve-month theme can carry the firm's products.
Diwali to New Year for a retailer network
Count the network in September
Retailers, stockists, institutional buyers and the people who serve the firm, by district. The count decides whether wall calendars (minimum 1,000) or table calendars (minimum 100) make sense, and how many tiers the diaries need.
Approve one artwork for everything
Box, calendar and diary share the firm's name, colour and motif. Mockups usually come back within two working days; a printed sample of the calendar is brought to the shop so the family can see the scripts and the grid at full size.
Produce for Diwali, pack by district
Production takes 5–10 working days after approval at our partner presses. Boxes and calendars are packed district-wise with Hindi labels if wanted, so the firm's transporter can load each town's lot straight from the godown.
Hand over the rest at New Year
Diaries for the office, the bank and the advisors, and any calendars not sent at Diwali, go out in the last week of December from the same artwork. One GST invoice, payment by UPI, bank transfer or card.
A worked example: a chikan house's network gifts
This is an illustrative brief, not a client case study. A chikan embroidery house in Chowk sells through about 180 showroom buyers and visiting agents, employs around 60 karigars through its contractors, and has 400 retailer accounts across Uttar Pradesh. For Diwali it wants 200 boxed sets — a PU diary with an embroidery motif blind-debossed on the cover, an engraved pen, room for the firm's own sweets — for the buyers and agents. For the retailer accounts it wants 1,000 wall calendars with twelve embroidered pieces photographed month by month, the grid in Hindi, Urdu and English and the festival dates marked. For the karigars and staff, 120 laminated A5 diaries.
The motif and the photographs come from the firm in mid-September; the mockups show the motif at actual size on the cover and all twelve sheets, and the family approves after one correction to the Urdu typesetting. A sample calendar is brought to the shop in early October. The boxed sets go to Chowk by two-wheeler before the buyers' Diwali visits; the calendars are packed by district and loaded onto the firm's transporter from the godown; the staff diaries follow at New Year.
Delivery in the lanes
Vans do not reach most shops in Chowk and Aminabad, and the lanes are at their busiest from late morning. We bring the lot as far as a vehicle can go and then by two-wheeler or handcart into the lane, at a time agreed with the shop — early in the day before the market fills, or in the slack hour after lunch. Cartons are sized for a handcart and labelled so the shop staff can stack them straight into the godown behind the counter.
Deliveries fall within our working hours, 10:00 to 18:30, on any day except Friday; where a market has its own closing day, we confirm the day with you first. Outstation lots can be handed to the firm's transporter at the godown or couriered from the studio, with tracking on WhatsApp.
Beyond the old city
Down the road is Hazratganj, where many old-city firms bank and keep their advisors; across the river to the north are the neighbourhood markets of Aliganj and Mahanagar and our own studio in Vikas Nagar; and to the south-west the transport and dealer trade of Alambagh and Transport Nagar gifts its network in much the same way. The Lucknow areas page lists every locality we hand-deliver to.
For the network-gifting pattern in detail, see dealers and distributors; for the sweet makers and restaurants of Chowk, hotels and restaurants. Retailers in districts beyond Lucknow are covered on the Uttar Pradesh page, and the whole range on corporate gifts in Lucknow.
Questions old-city firms ask
Can the calendar carry Hindi, Urdu and English together?
Yes. Hindi and English are standard; Urdu can be added when you tell us at the brief stage, so the right font is used and it is typeset properly. The grid stays large so retailers can read it from the shop floor, and the festival dates are marked.
Which festivals can be marked on the calendar?
Any you ask for: Diwali, Dhanteras, Holi, Eid, Ramzan, Muharram, Navratri, Dussehra, Chhath, Raksha Bandhan and the wedding season, along with national and Uttar Pradesh holidays and your own dates such as the annual sale.
How do you deliver into the lanes of Chowk and Aminabad?
By two-wheeler or handcart from the nearest point a vehicle can reach, at a time agreed with the shop — usually early morning or after lunch. Cartons are sized for a handcart and labelled for the godown.
Can you send calendars and diaries to our retailers in other districts?
Yes. Lots are packed district-wise with labels in Hindi if you prefer, and either handed to your regular transporter at the godown or sent by courier from the studio with tracking shared on WhatsApp.
Can the diary include our rate list or order form?
Yes. The company-pages section can carry rate-list pages, order-form pages, the product range and godown addresses, printed with the dated pages. Updates to the rate list should be final before artwork approval.
How early must a Diwali order from Aminabad be placed?
Send the brief in September and approve artwork by early October. Production takes 5–10 working days after approval, which leaves time to pack district-wise and load the outstation lots before the Diwali week.
