Catalogue, brochure and company profile printing in Lucknow

A catalogue shows what you sell, a company profile shows who you are, and a brochure persuades someone to ask for either.

The essentials

Inner pages
130–170 GSM art paper
Cover
250–300 GSM, laminated
Binding
Saddle-stitch or perfect binding
Press
Digital short run · offset long run
Ready in
5–10 working days after proof

All three are designed by our in-house desk in Vikas Nagar and printed at partner presses in Lucknow — digitally for short runs, by offset for long ones — on 130–170 GSM art paper with a 250–300 GSM cover, saddle-stitched or perfect-bound. Manufacturers, distributors, builders, hospitals, schools and hotels order them through the year, ready 5–10 working days after the final proof.

The hard part is rarely the printing. It is getting four hundred product codes, thirty photographs and a managing director's message into a sequence a dealer can use. This page covers how we build that, how run length decides the press, and which binding suits which book.

Catalogue, company profile or brochure — which one does the brief need?

The three are often asked for by the wrong name, so it is worth separating them. A product catalogue is a reference document: every item you sell, with a code, a photograph, a specification and space for a price sheet, arranged so that a dealer or a purchase officer can find a product in seconds. It is thick, reprinted when the range changes, and lives on a counter or in a drawer.

A company profile is a credentials document: who you are, what you have done, the people, the plant, the clients you may name. Builders attach it to a project file, IT companies send it before a first meeting, hospitals put it in front of empanelment committees, and all of them put it in a tender envelope. It is read once by someone deciding whether to trust you, so it is shorter and better finished.

A brochure is a persuasion piece: a folded sheet or a short booklet about one project, one course or one offer, printed in larger numbers and given away freely. A school's admission brochure, a hotel's banqueting brochure and a builder's project brochure are all this. Many briefs need two of the three; a dealer meet wants the catalogue on the table and a brochure in the bag.

How the design desk builds a catalogue

  1. Content in, in any state

Product lists in Excel, photographs from a phone or a studio, the old catalogue, the MD's message as a voice note — the desk starts from whatever exists and says what is missing.

  2. Page plan

Before any layout, a page-by-page map: sections, products per page, where the specification tables go, where the profile pages sit. Page counts are set in multiples of four so the binding works.

  3. Two layout directions

Two sample spreads in your brand system — one product page and one text page each — so the direction is chosen before the whole book is laid out.

  4. Full layout and corrections

The complete book as a PDF, then two or three correction rounds. Product codes and specifications are checked against your sheet on your side; we check the rest.

  5. Print-ready and proof

Final files with bleed and crop marks. For offset runs a digitally printed proof copy is made first, so colour and binding are approved in hand; the run follows within 5–10 working days of that approval. The sequence for every product is on how we work.

Digital or offset: six typical jobs

Run length decides the press, and the press affects unit cost and how easily the job can be reprinted. The thresholds are indicative; the quote names the press for your job. Budget is relative — ₹ lowest, ₹₹₹₹ highest — for the whole run.

Paper, cover, binding and finish

These choices fix the feel of the book and most of its cost after the page count.

Inner pages: 130–170 GSM art paper
130 GSM keeps a thick catalogue light enough to post; 170 GSM gives a brochure the stiffness people expect of it. Matt art paper reads better for text, gloss for photographs.
Cover: 250–300 GSM
A heavier board cover, laminated matt or gloss, with spot UV on the logo or the hero photograph if wanted. Profiles and project brochures nearly always take the heavier end.
Saddle-stitch
Two wire staples through the spine. Right for thinner books — brochures, profiles, short catalogues — and it lets the book open flat. Page count must be a multiple of four.
Perfect binding
Pages glued into a square spine with a wrap-around cover. Right for thicker catalogues and anything that needs a printed spine on a shelf.
Inserts and updates
A price sheet printed separately and slipped inside, so the catalogue outlives a price revision. Short digital reprints of changed pages keep an offset catalogue current between editions.

Who orders catalogues and brochures in Lucknow, and when

Unlike diaries, this work has no single season. Manufacturers and distributors on the Chinhat and Transport Nagar sides reprint dealer catalogues after the New Year dealer meets, usually February to April, when the range for the year is settled. Schools and coaching institutes want admission brochures between January and March. Builders print project brochures at launch and company profiles whenever a tender is due. Hospitals print services booklets when a department opens; hotels reprint banqueting brochures before the wedding season.

The common thread is a deadline fixed by an event rather than a calendar date, which is why the page plan and the proof copy matter: there is rarely time for a second run. The gift that goes with the catalogue at a dealer meet or a launch — a conference bag to carry it in, a pen, a boxed set for senior dealers — is usually delivered with it.

A worked example: a manufacturer's 32-page dealer catalogue

This is an illustrative brief, not a client case study. An electrical-fittings manufacturer with a unit near Chinhat sells through about four hundred dealers across Uttar Pradesh and wants a new catalogue in dealers' hands before its March meet. The range runs to 260 items in nine families; the old catalogue is a 20-page booklet with shop-floor photographs and no specification tables. The brief is for 1,500 copies.

The page plan settles on 32 pages: a two-page company profile, nine product sections with a grid of photographs, codes and a specification table each, a warranty page and a dealer-contact back cover, with the price list as a separate insert so that a mid-year revision does not scrap the book. Inner pages go on 130 GSM matt art paper to keep the posted weight down, the cover on 300 GSM with gloss lamination, perfect-bound with the company name on the spine. Two sample spreads are chosen in the first week, the full layout corrected twice over the next two, the proof copy approved in hand, and the offset run is ready within 5–10 working days of that, in cartons of 50 for dealer dispatch by transport.

Pharma catalogues, visual aids and literature

Our studio's other half, RX Design Hub, designs and prints visual aids, product catalogues and literature for pharmaceutical companies across India, and the same desk handles pharma catalogue briefs that come through this site. A range catalogue for a pharma marketing team follows the same page-plan and proof sequence, with the product-page template built around the composition, pack and indication fields the field force uses.

If your brief is a visual aid, a chemist book or a reminder card, the pharma site is the right starting point; if it is a corporate profile for a pharma company or a hospital, this page is.

Where catalogue and brochure orders come from in Lucknow

Manufacturing units and warehouses along Faizabad Road and Chinhat, dealers and transport businesses around Alambagh and Transport Nagar, and the builders, IT companies and hospitals of Gomti Nagar account for most of this work; every other locality is on the Lucknow areas page, and finished lots are hand-delivered from Vikas Nagar.

By buyer, the pages most often read with this one are dealers and distributors, builders and real estate and schools and colleges. The folder that carries a profile into a meeting is on the corporate stationery page, and examples of finished print are in our work.

Questions about catalogues, brochures and company profiles

Do you design the catalogue as well as print it?

Yes. Our in-house desk of five designers builds the page plan, lays out the book in your brand system and prepares print-ready files; our partner presses print it. You can also send print-ready files, which we check for bleed, resolution and page order.

How do you decide between digital and offset printing?

By run length and use. Short runs — a few dozen to a few hundred profiles or booklets — are printed digitally, which has no plate cost and allows small reprints. Longer runs of brochures and catalogues go to offset, where the unit cost falls with quantity.

What paper and binding should a product catalogue use?

Most dealer catalogues use 130–170 GSM art paper inside and a laminated 250–300 GSM cover. Thinner books are saddle-stitched; thicker ones are perfect-bound with a printed spine. Page count should be a multiple of four, and a separate price insert outlives a revision.

How long does a catalogue take from brief to delivery?

Design time depends on how ready the content is — a 32-page catalogue from a clean product sheet and good photographs usually takes two to three weeks of layout and corrections. Printing is then 5–10 working days after the final proof is approved.

Can you photograph our products?

Send the photographs you have first; many catalogues are built from supplier images and clean phone photographs that the desk retouches and cuts out. Where new photography is needed, we advise on what to shoot and work from the files you send.

Can we reprint only the pages that changed?

Yes, for short quantities. Changed pages or a new price sheet can be printed digitally and inserted, which keeps an offset catalogue current between full editions. A full reprint from the file on record needs no new design round.
